Anime
Kino no Tabi currently has 2 animes as well as 2 Movies (OVAs technically, but who's counting that?), with a 15 year difference between the two main series.
The original run was meant to promote the novels (as most animes are), while the second season was made as a compliation of fan-favorite stories from the series. This duplicates some of the stories in both seasons.
Trivia
- Sigsawa said that the 2017 anime is "not a sequel or a second season, it should be considered a completely new remake."[1]
- The director of the 2003 anime, Ryūtarō Nakamura, also directed Serial Experiments Lain.
- The 2003 anime has been characterized for years for having a scanline overlay thruout its episodes, however a 2020 Blu-Ray re-release of the show removes them.
- There are three stories that appear in both animes: Colosseum, Kind Country, and Land of Adults.
- Because of time restraints, Colosseum was put into only 1 epsiode in the 2017 run, and does not go into as much detail as the 2003 version. Key points remain.
- The First Kino is given a completely different design in the 2017 anime, which is used in the Manga series as well.
